Need a submission suggestion? Try a "Wooden Soldier".
To help improve your review, try to send the kinds of photos that an agency might actually ask for. A full body shot in swimwear, or a good close head shot are fine, and considered normal, but there is another possibility that works just as well - and in some cases even better.
Many agencies, and in particular, agencies that specialize in runway or mannequin models, don't really care how fancy you can pose, or how good you look in an evening dress. What they are looking for is basic figure and form, your overall appearance and proportions. They prefer what has become known in the industry as "Wooden Soldier" pictures.
While we admit that these will probably be the least flattering photos you've ever taken - they present your basic shape better than almost anything else, simply and effectively. The images below show what a wooden soldier set is.
To take "good" wooden soldier pics, use a 2-piece swimsuit or bra & panty (should not be see-through or sheer). A bra and panty is usually preferred because they are normally not as tight as swimsuits, and would show less bulging. A bikini style is preferred because it is often more flattering to the figure, but is not required, but DO NOT use a thong! Any color is OK, but plain white is preferred. Avoid using black or dark colors and patterns.
Your hair should be in a pony tail, or otherwise off your neck, and you should wear NO MAKEUP.
Stand feet together, and STAND UP STRAIGHT. (It doesn't matter how great you look if your posture is bad!) Keep your hands at your side, but try not to block the outline of your hips or waist from the camera. This might make you appear wider than you really are.
Shoot all 4 sides as shown in the examples. If you have tattoos or scars that the person your are submitting to may need to know about, have a good closeup done of them to add to the set. The whole point of a wooden soldier set is to show everything - so make sure you do it.
Once you have your wooden soldier set complete, then add a nice yearbook head shot or good family snapshot that shows you clearly and watch your review improve.
