15. Shooting Your Portfolio With An Aspiring Faces PhotographerDoing a model’s portfolio shoot is probably unlike any photography you’ve ever done. It isn’t like portrait photography - you don’t sit in front of the camera and say "cheese". Good model photography includes lots of angles, giving the image life and action.Regardless of your experience, don’t expect to do a shoot the first day you walk in. We have found that the vast majority of men and women that come into our studio have no idea what to do, and are usually quite nervous and anxious. Before we waste each other’s time, we will "practice" modeling first. You will make an appointment for one or more practice sessions - lasting from 1 to 3 hours or more, depending on both of our available schedules. These practice sessions are little more than a beginning modeling class. You will bring in as many different outfits as you like (you can also work with some of the outfits from our wardrobe), and basically learn how to model in each type. You should bring swimsuits, lingerie, shorts, jeans - anything that you might be modeling. For a typical woman’s portfolio, you’ll want at least 5 different "looks". At least two of them should show figure. We suggest you pick from the following for your portfolio, but this is only a guide. If you have another idea, discuss it with your photographer or agent. Typical Portfolio Looks:
This not only gets you used to modeling, but gets you comfortable with the photographer, especially in bathing suits or revealing clothing. Even if you’re the best model in the world, and we have the best photographer, if the two of you don’t click, the pictures will be less than perfect. We try very hard to make the whole experience fun for all of us, and we want your photos to make the client sit up and take notice! Please note:We try very hard to not only give you great pictures, and a better than average exposure, but our practice appointments are donated time for your benefit. Once someone has reserved time - whether for practice or a shoot - that time is dedicated to them, and others are scheduled around it. Please don’t schedule appointments you can’t keep, and please try to keep the appointments you make. If for any reason you are unable to keep your appointment please call your photographer and let him or her know at least a day in advance. Thank you. |
